About

Speaking with TaiwanPlus, Taiwan’s international English-language news service, Ian Urbina discussed how China, the world’s leading producer of farmed seafood, has pushed fish farming deep into inland regions like Xinjiang and Tibet as coastal fish stocks decline. He described seafood linked to forced labor transfers in Xinjiang reaching US public institutions and commercial markets in violation of federal law, and large infrastructure projects in Tibet that have displaced nomadic herders and used aquaculture as a means of forced assimilation and state control. These findings are part of Food for Feed, the Outlaw Ocean Project’s investigation into the global aquaculture supply chain.
