Email sent to Dayseaday Frozen CEOs Henk van Veen and Jelle Van Veen.

The email said: "I’m writing to you in light of our latest investigation, which concerns abuses in the Chinese squid fishing industry, and a link we’ve discovered between companies engaged in abuses and a supplier in your supply chain - Rongcheng Guangrun.

Dayseaday Frozen has imported squid from Rongcheng Guangrun Aquatic Food, a company based in China and owned by the Shandong Bodelong Group. Bodelong Group squid vessels have committed numerous IUU offenses, including disabling transmitters and discarding thousands of kilos of squid into the sea, and have disembarked at least two dead deckhands in the Port of Montevideo, in 2016 and 2019. One vessel also disembarked an ill deckhand in Montevideo in 2020 who had symptoms of beriberi, a sign of severe neglect.

Does Dayseaday have any comment or clarification to make regarding the above information? Please let me know by close of business August 1, 2023."

Leen Snoek, Purchase Manager at Dayseaday, replied: "We discussed this matter internally. We bought from this factory the last time in 2021. We will share this information with the agent that has arranged the contract for us. With the info you send us we will not work with this factory again. Thanks for sharing this information with us. Good luck with the project."

The Outlaw Ocean Project replied: "Thanks, Leen, for this candid and speedy reply."

Future correspondence will be added here as this conversation continues.
