Email sent to the contact address for Donggang Haimeng Foodstuff Co. Ltd.
The email said: "I’m contacting you in light of our latest investigation which concerns the use of forced labor in China’s food processing industry. We have uncovered evidence that Donggang Haimeng Foodstuff (东港市海萌食品有限公司) employed North Korean laborers after the December 2019 deadline for the repatriation of overseas North Korean workers required under UN Security Council Resolutions. This evidence shows North Korean workers at Donggang Haimeng’s plant as recently as 2023. According to our research, Donggang Haimeng’s international customers include companies in the United State, where the import of goods produced by North Koreans is prohibited. Has Donggang Haimeng informed its international customers that North Korean labor is used in its supply chain? Does Donggang Haimeng have any comment or statement to make in response to this email?"
The Outlaw Ocean Project emailed: "As we haven't heard back from you on this, we wanted to check if you had any comment or statement to make at this time?"
Donggang Haimeng replied: "Good morning: We, Donggang Haimeng Foodstuff Co. Ltd., state that we didn’t hire practices of North Korean workers. Our employment is in full compliance with SEMATA standards."
