The email said: "I’m writing to you in light of our latest investigation, which concerns the Chinese squid fishing fleet and one of your squid fishing vessels, the Wei Yu 18 (威渔18). We have found that one crew member died in September 2019 after falling ill and being refused medical treatment for over two weeks, and that there were delays in providing healthcare for at least three other crew members who were sick.
In addition to the withholding of medical treatment, our reporting documents other indicators of forced labor among crew onboard that vessel. We have also identified other squid fishing vessels identified by Shandong Baoma with a history of IUU infractions.
Please let us know by Friday, March 3 if you have any comment or statement to make on the record in response to this information."
